The OMNIs

How much study have you devoted to God’s infinite attributes? Although we are the offspring of God and made in His image (Acts 17:29; Gen 1:26-27); we remain vastly different from Him. Remember how God formed each one and that He is the master potter (Isa 29:16; Rom 9:20-21). As created beings, we would do well to contemplate the awesome abilities which our Creator possesses and reverence Him. Examining these truths from the scriptures should bolster our faith and encourage each one to more readily rely on our Holy God.

God is omnipresent, existing in all places at all times. This means it is not possible to escape God’s view (Job 34:21-22; Psa 33:13; Prov 15:3). All things are exposed in His view (Psa 139: 11-12; Jer 23:23-24; Heb 4:13). As Jonah learned, one cannot flee from the Almighty’s presence (Jon 1:1-4, 14-17). The faithful should take comfort in this truth. You will never find yourself isolated by distance. The Lord is our ever-present helping and guiding hand (Psa 139:7-10; Acts 17:27). God is always with us. He issues His promise to mankind, “I will never leave you nor forsake you” (Josh 1:5; Heb 13:5).

God is omnipotent, having all power. This means He is supreme and is not subject to limitations or restrictions from any force. God’s omnipotence is seen first in His role as Creator (Jer 32:17; John 1:1-3). The Lord spoke the universe into existence and sustains it by His power (Gen 1:1-3; 2 Pet 3:7). We stand in awe of all His mighty works (Psa 8:3-4; 105:1-5). His ability is further seen in military victories. No matter the strength or size of the opposing army, God gives the victory (Deut 28:7; Psa 46:9; 2 Kgs 19:35). We should take comfort in this. God is certainly strong enough to care for you and me. We are well-equipped to withstand any adversary with God (Rom 8:31; Eph 3:20-21; 2 Tim 3:16-17). Best of all, we have power over death through Christ Jesus (1 Cor 15:54-58; 2 Cor 5:21).

God is omniscient, knowing all things. This means no individual can conceal from Him even a single action, word, or thought. What we think, although unknown to others, is very important to God (Prov 23:7; Jer 4:14; Matt 5:27-28). The Lord has made a complete search of us and knows every hidden matter of our hearts (Psa 139:1-6; 1 Sam 16:7; Matt 9:3-4; Rom 8:27). Take comfort that the all-knowing One has given to us all which pertains to life and godliness (2 Pet 1:3-4). Recognize that God understands you and desires your salvation (1 Tim 2:3-4; 2 Pet 3:9)!

Now that we understand these aspects of God a little better, may we respond appropriately. Let us begin in wisdom, walking in the fear of the Lord (Psa 111; Prov 1:7). Acknowledging His infinite qualities and His character, we can confidently place our trust in Him. Today God can be your rock, your shield, and your deliverer (Psa 18:1-3; 62:5-8). Let us all look to God, recognize His Divine majesty, and walk in all His ways!
